Salmela Adds Medical Communications Leader Dr. Dana Carpenter

Salmela is pleased to welcome their latest new team member, Dana Carpenter, MD. With over a decade in both medical advertising and clinical practice experience, Dana brings a broad and deep knowledge of the healthcare ecosystem.

“Dana has worked with patients, administrators, life science industry leaders, Medical Affairs professionals, and healthcare professionals. There isn’t a corner of the healthcare space where she doesn’t have deep knowledge,” said Cory Salmela, Founder and President of Salmela.

After completing her OB-GYN training at Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia, she led a 12 clinician women’s health practice in the Chicago area while developing critical health education materials, courses, and in-services for patients and medical office staff.

Beginning in 2005, she turned her focus to health communications, launching an innovative independent consultancy in women’s health, breaking ground by implementing digital tools like podcasts, social media and websites to help patients access critical information.

In 2009, she joined the advertising industry giant CDM New York, where she worked across a variety of therapeutic areas and pharma clients. Promoted throughout her 10 year tenure with CDM, Dr. Carpenter was tapped to lead the Medical & Scientific Affairs department in 2018.

Dr. Carpenter now transitions to executive search with the same enthusiasm as past career transformations. In her new role, she’ll work with Managing Partner Megan Weizel’s recruiting team. “I’ve always been a curious and passionate learner,” she said. “Whether faced with the nuances of a new rare disease drug launch or developing corporate leadership plans, I enthusiastically tackle new challenges.

Weizel expounded on Dana’s background “Joining the Salmela team is another unique chance for her to broaden her knowledge and apply her experience in a new way. But it’s her friendliness and genuine warmth that make her suited for what we’re building on our team.”

Salmela has grown a strong reputation for its unique approach to talent identification, network building, and client relationships. Despite the challenges many clients faced in 2020, their team successfully built new client relationships in the health tech start-up space, and placed a record number of candidates.
